Authorities reported that a utility pole was hit by a minivan carrying 14 puppies, causing it to overturn and injuring a number of the dogs in Woodstock, Connecticut on Thursday morning.

According to fire officials, a minivan carrying multiple breeds of dogs was involved in an accident early in the morning in Woodstock, a rural town adjacent to Massachusetts. Although the driver sustained no serious injuries, the puppies underwent a thorough examination by a veterinarian. Unfortunately, one of the puppies had to be euthanized while the rest were transported to an emergency veterinarian center in Massachusetts. The majority of the puppies were then brought to a nearby animal shelter for further care.

Authorities are currently investigating the root cause of the accident.

According to Fire Chief Eric Young, the driver of the minivan was transporting the puppies from an animal rescue in West Virginia to their new homes in the region.

Young noted that the driver appeared to be quite shaken up by the accident, and was clearly beating himself up over what had happened.

According to Young, the driver informed the firefighters about the presence of puppies in the back. Initially, some of the first responders were hesitant to check on them as they were concerned about the welfare of the dogs. However, they eventually inspected the crates and found that although some were damaged, most of the puppies appeared to be unharmed.

According to officials, the adorable puppies will be thoroughly examined before being sent to their new homes.
