A group of Arizona sheriffs knocked GOP Senate candidate Kari Lake in a statement Friday for comments she made about a challenger in a recent online discussion.
Lake referred to Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, a Republican Senate primary opponent, as a “total coward when it comes to election integrity” during an Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) Action discussion on May 23.
Nine sheriffs and three county sheriff candidates signed a statement saying, “Kari Lake’s recent comment calling Sheriff Mark Lamb a ‘coward’ is both unfounded and disrespectful.”
“We want to make it clear: neither Sheriff Mark Lamb nor any law enforcement officer who wears a badge and uniform, putting their lives on the line every day to protect and serve our communities, is a coward,” the statement continued.
“Arizona voters expect better from a political candidate, especially when they are running for the U.S. Senate.”
During the candidate event last month, Lake, who supports bogus claims that former President Trump won the 2020 election, drew a comparison with Lamb.
“My opponent stood before Congress and said there was no fraud in the 2020 election,” Lake said, adding that he had previously stated in a Univision interview that there was no fraud in Arizona during the same election.
“And I know that anybody who is on this call from Arizona must be rolling their eyes when they hear that,” she continued.
In 2022, Lake ran for governor of the Grand Canyon State, but current Governor Katie Hobbs narrowly defeated her. In addition to challenging President Biden’s chances of winning the state in 2020, she has questioned the results of her own election two years ago, though judges have dismissed the legal challenges.
“The elections are conducted terribly. They’re running extremely poorly, and I’m not sure who stole the election, but there are a lot of people running elections badly, and we’ve seen the effects,” Lake added.
