A Connecticut man arrested in a grocery store parking lot on warrants died while in police custody.
The event happened in Milford, New Haven County, around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, in the Big Y Grocery Store parking lot on Boston Post Road.
According to Milford Police, officers apprehended Michael Brown, whose age and address are unknown, in the grocery store parking lot on several active arrest warrants.
According to police, Brown was also a suspect in a reported larceny at another Milford grocery store.
Authorities arrested and controlled Brown, but he appeared to be experiencing a medical incident.
We notified and dispatched Emergency Medical Services to the area to provide assistance. EMS treated Brown as his condition worsened, administering Narcan before transferring him to Milford Hospital. When he arrived at the hospital, Milford Police reported that they pronounced him deceased.
According to state legislation, the Inspector General’s Office is responsible for examining all deaths that occur while in police custody.
The IG’s Office inspectors responded to the scene and are now in charge of the inquiry.
