On Monday afternoon, May 20th, the atmosphere at Jasper Elementary School was disrupted when a vigilant staff member detected the distinct smell of marijuana coming from a vehicle in the school pickup line. Acting swiftly, the staff immediately informed Detective Sergeant Brock Werne, who coincidentally happened to be present in the pickup line, waiting to pick up his own children.
Sergeant Werne wasted no time and quickly found the vehicle. Upon approaching the adult occupants, both individuals were detained, and a conversation took place with the driver, Sylvia Hadi. After searching the vehicle, law enforcement discovered suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, controlled substances, and paraphernalia. Additionally, the vehicle was found in a terrible condition, with excessive filth, empty beer cans, and even soiled diapers scattered inside.
Sylvia J. Hadi, a 41-year-old resident of Jasper, IN, was arrested and taken to the Dubois County jail following the incident. She is now facing multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, neglect of a dependent, possession of controlled substances, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
The Indiana Department of Child Services stepped in to ensure the well-being of the five children discovered inside the vehicle.
The operation was led by Detective Sergeant Brock Werne, who was supported by Sergeant John Davis and received assistance from the Jasper Police Department.
According to legal protocol, all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
