Rapper Sean Kingston was taken into custody in California on Thursday on fraud charges. The arrest came shortly after a SWAT team conducted a raid on his rented mansion in South Florida, seizing a substantial amount of items.
Kingston was arrested in the area of Fort Irwin, an Army base in the desert about 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles, on a Florida warrant, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest was made without incident.
Earlier today, Broward detectives apprehended Janice Turner, a 61-year-old woman, when they conducted a search at the rapper’s expansive residence in Southwest Ranches. Situated in a prosperous neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, this suburb is renowned for housing various celebrities and professional athletes. Notable figures like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill call Southwest Ranches their home.
Broward County prosecutors have directed all inquiries to the sheriff’s office, which has chosen not to disclose the precise charges, citing an ongoing investigation. Following the raid, onlookers outside the residence witnessed authorities loading a van with items. The lavish mansion was encircled by luxury sports cars.
In a recent Instagram post, Kingston expressed his thoughts on the attention surrounding negative energy. He assured his followers that both he and his mother are doing well amidst the situation. Kingston also mentioned that his legal team is currently dealing with the matter. Although the post has since been removed, it shed some light on his current state of affairs.
Attorney Robert Rosenblatt, who is representing the rapper and his mother, acknowledges the allegations being made against them.
According to records from the Florida Department of Corrections, Kingston is currently serving a two-year probation sentence for trafficking stolen property. However, additional details regarding this conviction are currently unavailable. Kingston will remain in California until he is extradited back to Florida.
According to federal court records, his mother was convicted of bank fraud in 2006 for embezzling more than $160,000. She spent close to 1.5 years in prison as a result. Currently, she is being held at the Broward jail with a bond set at $160,000.
The Jamaican-American rapper gained popularity with his chart-topping single “Beautiful Girls” in 2007, as well as other hits like “Take You There” and his collaboration with Justin Bieber on “Eenie Meenie.” However, in 2011, he was involved in a personal watercraft accident that left him with near-fatal injuries. Despite his success in the past, Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, has not released any major label music in over ten years.
According to an attorney who personally witnessed his mother’s arrest, the detentions are partially connected to a lawsuit he had filed against Kingston in February. The lawsuit accuses Kingston of defrauding a Florida company that had installed a massive 232-inch television in his home, measuring approximately 17 feet by 9.5 feet.
Attorney Dennis Card, in a conversation with The Associated Press, highlighted the astonishing leniency celebrities often enjoy. He emphasized the role of a larger-than-life persona, coupled with a portrayal of wealth, in creating an illusion that allows them to evade consequences. Card also pointed out that the celebrity in question presents himself as a family-oriented individual, caring for his mother. However, Card believes that his mother is fully aware of the true nature of his actions.
Ver Ver Entertainment has filed a lawsuit claiming that Kingston reached out to them in September to inquire about buying and installing their television system, known as Colossal TV. The price of the system is set at $150,000.
According to reports, Kingston apparently made a proposition to the owners. He suggested that if they were willing to reduce the down payment and extend him credit, both he and Bieber would be open to doing commercials for them.
According to the lawsuit, Kingston paid the company $30,000 in November to have the TV installed. However, despite numerous promises, no commercials were aired and no further payments were made.
According to the lawsuit, Bieber and Kingston no longer work together, as Bieber recently parted ways with his longtime manager. Unfortunately, we do not have any current contact information for Bieber.
According to Card, Bieber is completely innocent in this matter. He has had the unfortunate experience of collaborating with Sean in the past, and Sean frequently mentions Bieber’s name.
