Gabby Douglas, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, had high hopes for the U.S. Classic, an important Olympic qualifying event held on Saturday. She saw this competition as an opportunity to solidify her position in the team that will be heading to Paris this summer.
The 2012 Olympic all-around and team champion encountered difficulties on the uneven bars, experiencing two falls. As a result, she made the decision to withdraw from the remaining events. Consequently, the 28-year-old athlete will not be able to qualify for the all-around at the upcoming U.S. Championships, scheduled to commence on May 30.

Biles dominated the competition, achieving the highest scores on both vault and floor exercise. She also claimed second place on uneven bars and balance beam.
“I was filled with joy to be back in action, embracing those nerves and experiencing that rush of adrenaline,” Biles expressed. “I can’t really complain about how the first meet back turned out.”
In a stunning display of her signature skills, she effortlessly executed the Yurchenko double pike on vault and flawlessly executed a tumbling pass that culminated in a triple-twisting double-flip.
Biles successfully executed the vault, showcasing her incredible athleticism as she flawlessly executed two backward flips while clasping her hands to her knees. Coach Laurent Landi, who had previously been standing on the podium to spot Biles during her attempts, watched closely from the side. It was a strategic decision to prevent any potential deductions, ensuring that Biles could perform at her absolute best.
Biles may not have been flawless in her performance, as she took a few significant steps back on her vault dismount and landed out of bounds on her triple-double. However, her exceptional combination of challenging elements and precise execution continues to set the benchmark in the world of gymnastics.
Konnor McClain, the reigning 2022 U.S. champion, unfortunately had to withdraw from the competition due to an Achilles injury sustained during her warm-up on the floor exercise.
