Police in Savannah, Georgia, are investigating a gunshot that injured 11 people in the city’s downtown on Saturday night.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight in Ellis Square, a landmark in Savannah’s historic area and major tourist destination. Several precincts responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity at about 11:55 p.m., according to a news release from the Savannah Police Department on Sunday.
Detectives were looking into the event and have interviewed witnesses as part of their ongoing investigation. Savannah police have yet to identify suspects or make any arrests in the case.
According to the police department, everyone injured in the shooting, including those who received gunshot wounds, is an adult, and several were transferred from the site to Memorial Health University Medical Center. Police did not provide specifics about the nature or degree of the injuries, but stated in a news statement on Sunday that “as of now, no deaths have occurred as a result of the incident.”
They informed CBS station WTOC that they suspected the shooting had injured at least 10 people. Authorities treated all 11 victims overnight for injuries they claimed were not life-threatening, according to WTOC.
