A teenage rapper sadly died after inadvertently shooting himself while displaying his firearm in a social media video. Raleigh Freeman III, better known by his stage as Rylo Huncho, was found dead at his home in Suffolk, Virginia, on May 16.
The 17-year-old was seen waving the gun, seemingly deactivating the firearm’s safety function before aiming it at his own head and firing. The camera dropped as the young artist was pushed out of sight. While authorities have not formally identified Rylo, they have confirmed that a 17-year-old died from a “accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound” to the head.
Initially, there were allegations that the video was manufactured, with some questioning how the footage could have been uploaded if the rapper had died. However, it appears that the tape was made during a live stream, and the teenager’s devastated family has since set up a GoFundMe page.
According to the GoFundMe page, Rylo was his mother’s only kid, and she did everything she could to provide for him. Rylo’s pal, Twin Porter, appeared to recognize the tragic news on Facebook, writing, “Long live rylooooooo.”
Furthermore, the late rapper’s loved ones gathered for a balloon release in his honor, with photos of the event shared on social media.
Kara Dorsey, a teacher connected with the musician and his family, used Facebook to promote a fundraising campaign, urging her students to “honor the legacy of their friend” by persevering in “fulfilling their goals.” On May 17, she wrote, “Just yesterday, my school family suffered a loss.” I didn’t get to meet this young man, but I did meet his elder cousin and a close friend today. I met them as they walked the corridors silently during their lunch break, asking workers to post a GoFundMe page to help the young man’s mother lay her only child to rest.
“I tried to urge them to honor their friend’s legacy and to continue being the kind and polite young men I’d seen in my brief engagement with them…to persevere until graduation day and continue achieving their goals. I informed them that, while this will not relieve their grief or bring him back, it will honor him and offer joy to their bereaved family during this difficult time.”
A relative of the rapper said on the fundraiser website, “Hello, my aunt recently lost her 17-year-old son from a self-inflicted gun wound to the head.” He was her only son! She was a single parent and did her best to care for her son. His death was caused by suicide or an accident, and we are still investigating why.
“But, in this time of need, anything can help her.” He was her only child, and she was also an only child; she and her son were usually together. Anything can help! Please keep my family in your prayers. Thank you very much.”
The GoFundMe page, which has a goal of $15,000, has already raised more than $2,800 in donations.
