According to authorities, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot inside a BMW on a Brooklyn street, just a few blocks away from where another individual was killed in a shooting a week prior.
Daequan Buckley, the most recent victim, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen outside the Magic Fingers Studio Hair Salon located near E. 54th St. and Church Ave. in East Flatbush. The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, as confirmed by the authorities.
“I saw the whole thing,” said a woman who works in the area. “The shooter was sitting in the car as a passenger, while the victim was in the driver’s seat. They were just sitting there together.”
The vehicle was described as a BMW with temporary paper license plates.
“The man fired three shots at him, and he calmly exited the car and walked away,” she recounted. “The neighborhood is absolutely dreadful. Witnessing such incidents doesn’t surprise me. I’ve been employed in this area for two years, and it’s certainly not a safe place.”
Buckley was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital by medics, but sadly, their efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
Two individuals, one of whom was armed, were apprehended by the police as individuals of interest.
According to Ring Tong, an employee at a laundromat across the street, she was startled by a rapid succession of gunshots.
Ariel Jiminiaa, a manager at America’s Food Basket, recounted hearing three consecutive shots followed by a frenzy of people fleeing the scene.
He mentioned that things have improved gradually in this area, although occasional difficulties still arise.
This month, the 67th Precinct in Brooklyn has experienced its third murder.
On April 20, Anthony Lancaster, a 40-year-old bodega owner, tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting on E. 53rd St. and Clarkson Ave.
Gamaliel Oliver, 45, succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound in his abdomen three days ago. He was brought to Brookdale University Hospital for treatment. The police investigation revealed that the shooting occurred on E. 98th St. near Lenox Road in East Flatbush approximately an hour before he arrived at the hospital.
The number of homicides in the precinct has increased this year, with seven killings reported through April 21, compared to five at the same point last year. However, citywide murder rates have decreased by over 18% during the same period.
