The assailant then fled to neighboring Fort Washington Park. The horrifying occurrence as a domestic crime is being investigated by police, with a 33-year-old male serving as the primary suspect. Despite the efforts of the first responders, Rodriguez was unconscious when they arrived and died at Harlem Hospital. There have been no arrests made yet.

Gender-based violence occurs across the country, particularly in New York City, and the figures are worrisome. According to a 2022 report, despite a general decline in murders, the number of women and girls killed has hit a seven-year high.
That year saw the deaths of 74 women and girls, illustrating a troubling trend in which the decline in murders did not translate into increased safety for female NYC residents.
Tessa Majors, an 18-year-old Barnard student, tragically lost her life in a murder near Morningside Park in 2019. Three adolescents fatally stabbed Majors during a heist.
Rodriguez’s story is reminiscent of Sade Robinson, a 19-year-old law student who was discovered dead and dismembered in April, days after going on what she thought would be a romantic date with a man.
Maxwell Anderson, 33, of Milwaukee, the suspect in Robinson’s case, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree intentional killing, mutilating a corpse, and arson. Various locations along the Lake Michigan beach revealed parts of Robinson’s lifeless body.
