According to reports on Friday afternoon, investigators searching for three missing tourists in Mexico have discovered three bodies.
Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, along with their friend Carter Rhoad from the United States, were reported missing when they did not arrive at their accommodation in Baja California on Saturday 27 April.
Authorities have reportedly found bodies and have arrested three individuals.
A distressing find was uncovered at La Bocana, a well-liked spot for fishing and camping near Ensenada, as reported by CBS8.
The formal announcement of the news is still pending from the Baja California attorney general.
According to a report from The Sydney Morning Herald, on Thursday, authorities announced the arrest of three Mexican citizens. The arrested individuals include a woman and two men. Interestingly, the woman was found to be in possession of a mobile phone with a photo that matched the description of one of the men.
The family of the brothers mentioned that Jake had traveled to visit his brother, who currently resides in the US. Together, the three of them decided to venture south of the border to Ensenada, an area that attracts many tourists but is also notorious for cartel violence.
No contact had been established with them since the previous Saturday. Their car was discovered later, completely burned, and three tents were left behind.
According to Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez, the Attorney General of Baja California, there was a delay in notifying the authorities about the incident. As a result, valuable time was lost in the search for the three men.
According to a statement given to 9News, the parents of Australian brothers, Martin and Debra Robinson, shared that Callum has been residing in the United States in pursuit of his dream to become a professional lacrosse player.
“He has gained immense popularity in the United States, earning the nickname ‘Big Koala’,” they revealed. “To us, he is like a gentle giant, warm and approachable.”
According to reports, the parents were apparently going to the area in order to be near the search efforts.
“Callum and Jake are truly remarkable individuals. We have an immense amount of love for them, and it deeply saddens us to see them going through this difficult time,” expressed the couple with heavy hearts.
Both US and Australian authorities have expressed their readiness to assist in the investigation in any way possible, according to a report by The Independent.
