Three men were charged with murder and other offenses on Tuesday for their involvement in the death of a man who was shot during a robbery in Midtown Manhattan. The victim passed away a month later due to a blood clot.
Richard Johnson, Jarel Moore, and Michael Vizcaino, all aged between 34 to 37 years, are charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Tobias Savice, who was 35 years old.
According to the Manhattan D.A.’s Office, Savice suffered a gunshot wound to his ankle during a robbery at a building in Midtown on Jan. 6. The injury left him incapacitated and resulted in the formation of a blood clot, which proved fatal in February.
As per the court records, Savice contacted his tailor, Vizcaino, to set up a meeting for some clothing alterations. Vizcaino then arranged a rendezvous at a building close to the intersection of West 38th Street and Eighth Avenue.
During the incident, Savice was unwilling to comply, resulting in a confrontation between him and Johnson. Eventually, Savice was shot in the ankle by Johnson, who proceeded to flee with the watch and meet up with Moore. The duo then tried to sell the stolen watch in Midtown, according to the prosecution’s account.
After experiencing a fractured tibia bone, Savice underwent multiple surgeries and was hospitalized for several days. Unfortunately, he was left unable to walk. Tragically, nearly a month later, he developed a blood clot, which ultimately led to his untimely passing on February 4th.
Not only have all three men been charged with second-degree murder, they are also facing a first-degree robbery charge. In addition, Johnson and Moore have been charged with weapons offenses. Johnson has also been charged with drug possession due to the alleged discovery of vials of cocaine on his person during the time of his arrest.
According to a statement by Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg, the defendants are accused of orchestrating and executing a robbery at gunpoint, which resulted in the death of Tobias Savice, a beloved family man. Despite his resilience in the face of adversity, Savice ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
