Lake Charles has experienced a significant population decline in recent years. The population decreased by 2.3% from 2010 to 2020, with the 2020 population recorded at 75,766. Economic challenges, including a struggling job market and damaged infrastructure from hurricanes Laura and Delta, have contributed to this decline.

2. Shreveport

Shreveport has seen a population decrease of 4.6% from 2010 to 2020, with the 2020 population at 187,593. High crime rates and economic struggles, including a lack of job opportunities and declining industries, have contributed to the town’s decline.

3. Monroe

Monroe’s population has declined by 5.5% from 2010 to 2020, with the 2020 population at 46,325. Struggling industries and high unemployment rates have led many residents to leave in search of better opportunities elsewhere.

4. Alexandria

Alexandria has experienced a population decrease of 4.4% from 2010 to 2020, with the 2020 population recorded at 45,478. A lack of job opportunities and an economic downturn have contributed to the town’s decline, along with moderate crime rates.

5. Bastrop

Bastrop has seen a population decline of 7.2% from 2010 to 2020, with the 2020 population at 10,019. Failing industries and high poverty rates have led to the town’s economic struggles, making it a place that many residents are choosing to leave.

In conclusion, these five Louisiana towns are facing economic challenges, high crime rates, and declining populations. While each town has its own unique set of circumstances contributing to its decline, they all share the commonality of residents leaving in search of better opportunities.
