On Wednesday morning, an attempted robbery at an I-80 rest stop just south of Grand Island, Neb. turned deadly when a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a knife attack. Police are currently investigating the incident.
Upon arriving at the location, Hall County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a man and woman in their 70s from Eureka, Missouri, who had sustained stab wounds.
After sustaining severe injuries, the 72-year-old man was transported to Grand Island Regional Hospital where he unfortunately passed away. Meanwhile, the 71-year-old woman remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
After a high-speed chase, Nebraska State troopers apprehended James Thompson Jr., a 22-year-old suspect from Elyria, Ohio.
According to troopers, they chased the vehicle as it exited I-80 and drove onto Highway 11. Eventually, the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the Platte River.
According to the ongoing investigation by the police, it is suspected that the stabbings were a result of an attempted robbery.
