In a statement released on X, Kiefer Sutherland, son of the late Donald Sutherland, confirmed the passing of his father.

He wrote that in his opinion, the actor was one of the most significant figures in the film industry’s history. He never shied away from any part, regardless of its quality. He had a genuine passion for his craft and pursued it with enthusiasm, and that was all one could ask for. He lived a fulfilling life.

Born on July 17, 1935, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, Donald Sutherland is a renowned Hollywood actor with a career spanning several decades. His earliest acting roles date back to the ’60s, with standout performances as Vernon Pinkley in the 1967 film “The Dirty Dozen” and Hawkeye Pierce in the 1970 movie “MASH,” which helped him gain prominence in the industry.

Donald Sutherland has appeared in numerous noteworthy movies throughout his career, such as “Animal House,” “Klute,” “Pride & Prejudice,” “Don’t Look Now,” and the “Hunger Games” series. Despite delivering several impressive performances, he was never recognized with an Academy Award nomination. Nevertheless, in 2017, he was bestowed with an honorary Oscar.

In addition to his success in film, the talented actor has also received recognition for his outstanding performances on television. He was awarded both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Mikhail Fetisov in the 1995 TV movie “Citizen X.” Recently, Sutherland showcased his skills once again in the role of Judge Parker in the Paramount+ miniseries “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” in 2023.

Back in March, the news broke that on November 12, Kiefer Sutherland would be releasing his very first memoir, titled “Made Up, But Still True.” The book promises to delve into his extensive and remarkable career.
