According to the New Mexico News, In June, 11,834 New Mexicans are slated to receive an additional $135 in food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), as reported by New Mexico News. This increase in benefits is part of a collaborative effort between the stateโs Human Services Department (HSD) and the Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) to address food insecurity among elderly adults and individuals with disabilities already enrolled in SNAP.
The additional $135 SNAP benefit will be distributed throughout June to those who received the SNAP State Supplement in February. Funding for this increase comes from the state general fund, and eligible individuals do not need to take any action as the extra funds will be automatically added to their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.
This initiative is a crucial step in ensuring that residents of New Mexico have access to an adequate food supply. For any questions regarding these additional food benefits, individuals can contact the Human Services Department at 1-800-283-4465.
