In a recent interview, Anthony Fauci, former chief medical adviser to the White House, placed the blame for the mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic on former President Trumpโs staff. Fauci expressed frustration over being fed misinformation and noted that he became โfuriousโ as a result.
Throughout his career at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and his tenure under both the Trump and Biden administrations, Fauci emerged as the leading figure in the United States’ pandemic response, serving as the public face of the effort.
Over the past few years, he has found himself at odds with the conservative movement following his efforts to counter Donald Trump’s unsupported allegations about the pandemic and encourage the public to get vaccinated.
During a recent interview with former Washington Post journalist Rick Atkinson at the Lincoln Theater, Dr. Fauci revealed that he and former President Trump had a cordial relationship at times. However, he also mentioned that when stay-at-home and social distancing orders were first issued in March 2020, Trump initially supported them, but with the unrealistic expectation that the virus would disappear as quickly as the flu, as if by magic.
“The doctor added that the disagreement happened in front of the press while stating, ‘And I was saying you know, it’s not’.”
According to Fauci, he declined to make a statement about the virus disappearing quickly, as it goes against the nature of the disease.
“He said that we must take ownership of it as it is a distinct disease.”
According to the doctor, Trump appeared relatively unfazed by the situation, but his staff grew increasingly angry with the doctor for bringing up the issue.
In the aftermath of the ex-president’s endorsement of hydroxychloroquine as a potential cure for COVID-19, Dr. Fauci publicly refuted the claim. Following this, he disclosed that the White House team began their efforts to undermine everything he had stated.
He argued that the White House communications team did something unprecedented โ they conducted opposition research on one of their own staff. According to sources within the White House, this was the first time such an action had been taken.
During an event held at the Lincoln Theater, Fauci spoke about his latest book titled “On Call: A Doctor’s Journey in Public Service.”
During a recent Congressional hearing, Dr. Fauci became emotional as he spoke about the ongoing harassment and death threats that he and his family have been facing. This was his first time addressing lawmakers since his retirement almost a year and a half ago.
During a recent appearance on a late-night talk show, Fauci clarified that he was not attempting to undermine Trump’s leadership by focusing on pandemic-related information. He emphasized that he holds a deep admiration for the office of the presidency and therefore, strives to provide accurate and helpful information to the public.
According to him, he had to contradict the former president as he was stating things that were not accurate.
