The fatal stabbing of a homeless man by a University of Southern California student has been determined to be an act of self-defense. As such, the student will not be charged for the incident.
On Monday night, authorities arrested 19-year-old Ivan Gallegos on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of 27-year-old Xavier Cerf.
District Attorney George Gascรณn of Los Angeles County announced on Thursday that his office had examined the incident and concluded that no charges would be filed against Gallegos.

โWe believe that Mr. Gallegosโs actions were driven by a genuine fear for his life and the lives of others,” Gascรณn said in a statement. “Our heart goes out to the deceasedโs family, friends and everyone impacted by this tragic incident.โ
Prior to this incident, Gallegos, a resident of Los Angeles, had been incarcerated with a bail amount of $2 million.
According to a woman in charge of the fraternity house, he belongs to Delta Tau Delta. ABC 7 reported this information.
Annenberg Media featured a profile on Gallego last month, describing him as a promising musician and a business school student.
