The fatal stabbing of a homeless man by a University of Southern California student has been determined to be an act of self-defense. As such, the student will not be charged for the incident.
On Monday night, authorities arrested 19-year-old Ivan Gallegos on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of 27-year-old Xavier Cerf.

“We believe that Mr. Gallegos’s actions were driven by a genuine fear for his life and the lives of others,” Gascón said in a statement. “Our heart goes out to the deceased’s family, friends and everyone impacted by this tragic incident.“
Prior to this incident, Gallegos, a resident of Los Angeles, had been incarcerated with a bail amount of $2 million.
According to a woman in charge of the fraternity house, he belongs to Delta Tau Delta. ABC 7 reported this information.
Annenberg Media featured a profile on Gallego last month, describing him as a promising musician and a business school student.
