Officials in Buffalo, New York, have reported that a 3-year-old boy lost his life and his 7-year-old sister was wounded in a shooting incident that occurred during a family gathering.
The boy who was involved in the incident on Friday night was quickly taken to the hospital by the police. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he was declared dead upon arrival.
The police have reported that his sister sustained grazing wounds, but fortunately, she is expected to make a full recovery.
During a press conference held on Saturday, Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph A. Gramaglia expressed his grief over the unfortunate incident that occurred in the community the previous night. He referred to the night as being tragic for everyone in the community.
According to Gramaglia, the family gathering was not related to the shooting incident.
He mentioned that the night was hot and bustling with many people, and the sound of gunfire was not related to the crowd. The innocent children were merely spending time outside, savoring a summer evening when an unfortunate incident occurred.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown recounted a heart-wrenching incident where a 3-year-old boy, riding his tricycle with his 7-year-old sister on a hot summer night, was suddenly caught in the crossfire of gunfire. The innocent children were struck by the bullets, leaving them injured and traumatized.
According to Gramaglia, the officers’ response time to the shooting was commendable, as they arrived on the scene very quickly.
Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane reported that the mother of the two children is a prominent figure in the community and actively participates in Most Valuable Parents, a local organization that is dedicated to enhancing safety in Buffalo.
He praised her as a resilient woman who tirelessly collaborates with other families to ensure the safety of their children. Unfortunately, tragedy has now struck her own family.
As of Sunday afternoon, the police have not disclosed any information regarding the identification of any person or persons of interest in connection with the shooting. They are urging anyone who has any information about the incident to step forward and assist them in their investigation.
According to authorities, they are currently conducting tests on a firearm found at the location.
Gramaglia emphasized the importance of the community’s involvement in stopping the violence. “Let us unite and put a stop to this,” he urged. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the children and pledged to make every effort to bring justice to this tragic and senseless incident.
