The promise made by former President Donald Trump’s campaign to grant green cards to all international students studying in the US upon graduation is being retracted.
During his appearance on The All-In Podcast on Thursday, Trump expressed his belief that those who graduate from college should receive a green card as part of their diploma, granting them the ability to remain in the country. He stated, “What I want to do, and what I will do, is you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country.”
Trump clarified that this move would not only apply to graduates of four-year universities.
โIf you attend a junior college or a four-year college and obtain a degree or a doctorate, you should be allowed to remain in this country,โ stated the individual.
As part of the plan, the campaign is now placing a strong emphasis on a rigorous vetting process, in response to the initial backlash it received.
According to a statement made to The New York Post by Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, the proposal is considered “cockamamie”.
Krikorian stated that he would personally drive to the house of anyone who earns a PhD in a hard science from a university and grant them a green card.
A green card could be obtained by any foreign college graduate, regardless of the legitimacy of their two-year master’s program or field of study, such as gender studies.
According to Fox News, Chris Chmielenski, the President of the conservative Immigration Accountability Project, expressed concern about the plan. He stated that it has the potential to decrease wages for all Americans, create more job competition, especially for recent college graduates, and pose a national security threat.
“We must prioritize the interests of all Americans when it comes to US immigration policy, rather than catering to the desires of wealthy business leaders who are only looking for inexpensive labor.”
According to a statement given by Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the Trump campaign, the President has made it crystal clear that his top priority on day one of his new administration is to close the border and initiate the most extensive ever mass deportation of illegal immigrants.
According to her, the green card proposal put forth by Trump would entail a rigorous vetting process that would weed out individuals such as communists, radical Islamists, supporters of Hamas, those who harbor hatred towards America, and those who are a financial burden on the system.
According to Leavitt, the idea is to retain the most talented college graduates who can greatly contribute to the country, but only after they have undergone thorough vetting. He emphasized that this approach would only be applicable to those who have been carefully screened and can guarantee they won’t undermine American workers or wages.
During a recent podcast, the host, investor Jason Calacanis, asked the former president if he could promise to provide more opportunities to import the best and brightest individuals from around the world to America. In response, the former president made a comment.
Trump voiced his annoyance regarding the situation where certain American graduates choose to establish their businesses in China or India because they face difficulty in acquiring visas to stay in the United States.
