Police are seeking the shooter who opened fire in Columbus, Ohio, leaving ten people injured.
According to a report from the Columbus Police Division, the incident occurred just before 2.30 a.m. on Sunday in the Short North district of Ohio’s capital city. According to authorities, the shooting took place at numerous locations along North High Street.
Hours after the massacre, the culprit remains at large. The police are looking for any relevant information on the suspected shooter. Authorities know little about the probable shooter, but they have seen him wearing all black.
They believe the unidentified suspect quickly left the scene in a white four-door Honda Civic with tinted windows.
Authorities report that eight adults and two teenagers aged 16 to 27 were among the ten injured. One adult remains in critical condition, while the other nine are stable. Police told the Associated Press that all of those injured are likely to live.
Sgt. Joe Albert described the police chase, telling WCMH that authorities pursued the suspect’s automobile but he did not stop or pull over. During the chase, the suspect drove “wrong-way” on North 4th Street before proceeding to I-670, according to the sergeant. Police lost control of the vehicle on I-670 at the Grandview exit because they were unable to keep up with its speed.
The publication reported the closure of parts of North High Street as early as Sunday afternoon.
“The gun violence that occurred early this morning in the Short North is outrageous, it’s unacceptable, and it must stop,” Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said in a statement.
The mayor requested anyone with knowledge of the situation to come forward with information.
“We need the community to step up with tips and information to hold the perpetrators of this shooting accountable,” he told the crowd. “We need parents to stand upโto know where their children and teenagers are, and to impose a curfew in their houses. And we need the state and federal governments to take action to keep weapons off the streets and out of the hands of deadly criminals.”
The Columbus massacre on Sunday morning is the state’s sixth mass shooting this month, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.
