Reports emerged on Monday of a shooter inside an office building near a shopping mall in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The incident resulted in a lockdown of the surrounding neighborhood, and unfortunately, the perpetrator died in the aftermath.
Around 2 p.m. local time, reports regarding the man carrying a gun began to surface, according to the authorities in Chattanooga.
According to Sgt. Victor Miller of the Chattanooga Police Department, there was a shooter inside the building who had a plan to carry out an attack. However, the attempt failed, and the shooter ultimately took his own life.
According to Miller, the shooter did not harm any other individuals. It is not yet clear if additional shots were fired during the incident. Miller did not provide any further details regarding the shooter’s motive as the matter is currently being investigated.
Police asked people to avoid the neighborhood on Monday afternoon as businesses, including the nearby Hamilton Place shopping mall, were locked down. After a duration of approximately 90 minutes, the authorities announced on social media that the suspect had been detained, and businesses were lifting their lockdowns.
