poncapost – a 50-year-old man was sentenced to prison after being convicted of fraud involving COVID-19 stimulus checks.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Texas, Ndem Oduu admitted to depositing another person’s COVID-19 stimulus check into his own account. This action defrauded the victim of $1,200 intended to help them during the economic challenges of the pandemic.
Furthermore, Oduu was also convicted of attempting to defraud the government through various other schemes. Evidence presented during his court proceedings revealed “thousands of pages” found in Oduu’s apartment detailing his plans to commit fraud involving loans and tax credits.
Following his trial, U.S. District Judge Charles R. Eskridge sentenced Oduu to 45 months in federal prison. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $1,867 in restitution fees.
Upon completing his sentence, Oduu will undergo three years of supervised release.
Currently, the 50-year-old is in custody and is expected to be transferred to a federal facility soon.
