Authorities have reported that a North Carolina beach saw a 14-year-old boy being bitten on the leg by a shark, but he is now recovering.
According to North Topsail Beach Police Chief William Younginer, a distressing incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday when an attack took place. Fortunately, beachgoers reacted promptly and rescued the boy from the water. They even used towels and applied pressure to slow down the bleeding.
According to Younginer, the officers and emergency medical technicians were already present at the beach attending to another call. Therefore, the response time was a mere two minutes.
According to Younginer, the quick thinking of a police officer who applied a tourniquet and the prompt response of EMS in stabilizing the teenager ensured that he was rushed to the nearest trauma center, Camp Lejune Naval Hospital.
Younginer reported that the boy’s leg has been mended by the doctors and he is anticipated to be discharged soon.
The prompt response of the bystanders was commended by the police chief.
According to emergency officials, the situation is dire.
