According to authorities, a gunman has reportedly taken the lives of five people and left a teenager critically injured in shootings that occurred at two separate apartments in Nevada.
After officials launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was identified as 57-year-old Erick Adams, North Las Vegas police later revealed that Adams had died by suicide on Tuesday.
The shootings took place in North Las Vegas on Monday night. Officers arrived at the first apartment shortly after 10 p.m. and discovered two women, one in her 40s and one in her 50s, both fatally shot, police said.
Officials added that they discovered a 13-year-old girl, the third shooting victim, at the residence and she is in critical condition.
Officers discovered three more shooting victims in an adjacent apartment: two women and one guy, all in their twenties, according to authorities. Officials pronounced all three deceased at the scene.
On Tuesday, police released Adams’ name and a photo, imploring anyone with information to come forward.
Police said they learned of Adams’ location just after 10 a.m. When authorities arrived, Adams, armed with a gun, escaped into a home’s backyard, according to police.
“Officers began giving Adams verbal commands to drop the firearm; however, Adams ignored those commands and died by suicide,” according to a police release.
We have not revealed a plausible motivation.
