City police found Milan Jones, a 20-year-old Temple University nursing student, dead in an apartment on Willington Street early on Saturday, June 22. Investigators suspect she died from blunt force injuries and described her murder as “domestic in nature.”
Now, authorities have charged 21-year-old Temple student Tymir Lackey with her murder.
Linsay Ramos, Jones’ sister-in-law, wrote on GoFundMe that the 20-year-old was “taken from us too soon and in such a senseless fashion.”
“I have been in her life since she was 2 years old,” Ramos wrote in an email. “I had the greatest honor of being a real sister to her and watching her grow up.”
Donors have contributed more than $11,000 to the fundraiser since it began on Monday, June 24. Ramos plans to use the money for burial expenses, and any remaining funds will establish a scholarship for Temple nursing students.
Temple executives stated that Jones “enjoyed helping and caring for others, and her decision to pursue a career in nursing reflects just that.”
“There is no doubt that she has a very bright future ahead of her, which makes delivering this news especially difficult,” they explained.
The university has suspended Lackey, according to administrators.
