Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) made it clear on Thursday that his state will not abide by the newly introduced changes to Title IX by the Biden administration.

In a video shared on the social platform X, Governor DeSantis boldly declares Florida’s rejection of President Biden’s attempt to rewrite Title IX. He firmly states that the state will not comply and will actively fight back against these changes.

“We won’t allow Joe Biden to introduce men into women’s activities,” DeSantis emphasized. “We won’t let him undermine the rights of parents, and we certainly won’t let him abuse his constitutional authority by imposing these policies on us here in Florida.”

The Biden administration recently announced its final set of changes to Title IX, which aims to enhance the protection of transgender students under the federal civil rights law against sex-based discrimination. These changes are set to come into effect in early August.

“These final regulations carry forward the principles of Title IX, ensuring that all students in our country have the opportunity to attend schools that prioritize safety, inclusivity, and the protection of their rights,” stated Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.

LGBTQ advocates have previously criticized DeSantis for enacting state laws that they believe negatively impact their community. One such law is the Don’t Say Gay law, which places restrictions on discussions about LGBTQ topics within Florida public schools.

Top Stories from The Hill

The nation’s largest LGBTQ advocacy group, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), collaborated with a Florida LGBTQ advocacy organization in 2020 to release a warning discouraging travel to Florida.

The White House has been contacted by The Hill.

According to Brandon Wolf, the national press secretary for HRC, politicians in Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and other states are already rushing to oppose important protections for students in American schools.

In a statement, Wolf criticized the MAGA politicians for prioritizing theatrics and hateful rhetoric over the well-being of their state’s students. He emphasized the potential damaging consequences of their refusal to comply with Title IX, including a significant loss in funding that could amount to hundreds of millions of dollars. According to Wolf, these funds should be utilized to support young individuals in achieving academic excellence. He further suggested that these politicians are willing to sacrifice the needs of the students for their own self-interest and political ambitions.

In an emailed statement on Thursday, Jon Harris Maurer, the public policy director of Equality Florida, emphasized that Governor DeSantis cannot disregard the federal protections put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and families. This includes LGBTQ students, survivors of sexual assault and harassment, and pregnant students.

“Countless parents have united and voiced their concerns at school board meetings, vehemently opposing policies that turn their children’s classrooms into political arenas. Our commitment to collaborating with parents across the state remains unwavering, as we strive to cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can flourish and succeed.”

“All federally funded schools are required to adhere to these final regulations in order to receive federal funds. We are excited to collaborate with school communities nationwide to ensure that every student’s experience aligns with the Title IX guarantee of nondiscrimination in schools.”

According to Diaz’s memo, the Biden Administration is deviating from Congress’s explicit mandate to combat discrimination based on biological sex. In an attempt to deceive the nation, they are distorting the statute to the point where the concept of biological sex loses all significance.
