The Storm Prediction Center has issued severe thunderstorm watches for Connecticut and Kentucky until after sunset. The weather alerts also cover New York City.

The primary dangers include scattered destructive wind gusts of up to 70 mph and rare heavy hail occurrences up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

The most severe storms are forecast to hit a region ranging from New York to Kentucky. NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has assigned a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather threat to major cities along this zone, including New York City, Philadelphia, Columbus, Ohio, Memphis, and Baltimore.

The greatest hazards from severe storms will be damaging winds, but hail and tornadoes are also likely.

The SPC added an area in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut with a low tornado hazard during the afternoon and evening.

“It’s going to hang in there overnight, and then by tomorrow (Thursday), we still have the showers out there for your early-morning commute,” FOX Weather Meteorologist Bob Van Dillen stated. “Things have just cleared up a little.” Then it becomes chaotic for the weekend.”
