Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi have identified Junior Nunez as a suspect in the carjacking and kidnapping that occurred at Percy and Holsman streets on Thursday, June 27, at around 10:40 p.m.
Nunez was issued an arrest warrant while an amber alert was issued overnight for the child. The authorities took action and at 6:53 a.m., Paterson police apprehended Nunez without any trouble. The good news is that the victims were found to be in good health.
Charges were filed against Nunez for several offenses including kidnapping, carjacking, endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of disorderly person’s offense of simple assault, and various weapons offenses.
According to a report by Daily Voice in February 2020, Nunez was reported to have broken into his ex-girlfriend’s Hackensack apartment and physically assaulted her on two separate occasions within 19 hours.
According to Jerry DeMarco’s report on Daily Voice, Nunez’s criminal record dates back to earlier years and includes several arrests for criminal restraint, burglary, contempt, and harassment in Passaic County. Additionally, Nunez was arrested for assault in February 2019 in Woodcliff Lake, and had been previously arrested for armed burglary in 2013.
A motion has been filed by the State to hold Nunez in custody until his trial, which is scheduled to be heard by a Superior Court Judge, following his arrest on June 28, 2024.
