During this summer, you can enjoy swimming at pools located in New York state parks, including two in New York City, without any fee.
Governor Kathy Hochul declared on Tuesday that the state park swimming pool entry fees will be waived for the remainder of the season in New York. This move is part of the “Get Offline, Get Outside” initiative that aims to promote outdoor activities for children.
This year, visitors can enjoy a free swim at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx and Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park in Manhattan. Hochul’s office has confirmed that both the indoor and outdoor pools at Riverbank are also included in this offer.
At the two parks, adults are charged $2 while kids are charged $1 as the entrance fee. The outdoor pool located at Roberto Clemente is currently open and the one at Riverbank will open on July 4. The best part is that both pools will remain open and will be free of charge until Labor Day.
At Riverbank, Hochul expressed on Tuesday that their aim was to provide convenience and affordability for their families, many of whom are facing difficulties.
The governor’s office has announced that entry fees will no longer be charged at 14 swimming pools located in state parks throughout New York. However, it’s important to note that parking fees will still be applicable. State parks with waived entry fees include West Bathhouse Pool at Jones Beach, and several in the Hudson Valley region such as FDR, Bear Mountain, High Tor, and Rockland Lake state parks.
The city-owned pools in New York are presently free of charge. However, both city and state pools are facing challenges due to a national shortage of lifeguards.
