Around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, the incident took place in Sullivan County at two different locations on Route 97.
Trooper Steven Nevel from the New York State Police reported that they received a call regarding a suspicious person in a vehicle at a business located on Route 97 in Barryville. Upon receiving the report, the troopers immediately responded to the scene.
According to Nevel, the man was found by the troopers and he threatened to shoot them by claiming that he had a gun.
According to Nevel, the suspect, Paul Gosselin, aged 63 and hailing from Augusta, Maine, tried to evade troopers when they attempted to stop him. Gosselin then drove towards a secondary business on Route 97 and abandoned his vehicle there.
Afterwards, he got back in his car and headed towards a Town of Lumberland officer who was on foot close to Gosselin’s vehicle on Route 97.
According to Nevel, Gosselin was struck by a round fired by a trooper after he accelerated towards the officer.
Troopers provided immediate medical assistance to Gosselin before he was taken to a nearby hospital by EMS. Currently, he is in stable condition at the hospital.
The authorities are currently conducting an investigation, and it is still in progress.
