According to The US Sun, A recent settlement has opened an opportunity for Americans impacted by a data breach at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) in October 2021 to potentially receive compensation of up to $10,000. This development follows a legal proceeding resulting in a $6 million settlement aimed at addressing the fallout from the breach, which compromised the personal information of approximately 409,437 patients.
The breach, which came to light with notifications sent out in November 2021, exposed sensitive data including names, addresses, medical information, and in some cases, Social Security numbers. The incident prompted a class-action lawsuit against PPLA, alleging negligence and failure to adequately protect patient data.
To participate in this settlement, individuals who received notification of the breach must submit a valid claim form by July 6, 2024. The settlement’s final approval is anticipated on August 8, 2024, pending court review.
This opportunity allows affected individuals to seek compensation for the potential harm and inconvenience caused by the breach. It underscores the importance of data security and the legal recourse available to those affected by such incidents.
