According to a recent national poll conducted by CNN, former President Donald Trump is currently leading President Joe Biden by a margin of six percentage points. The poll reveals that nearly half of the voters are inclined to support Trump in the upcoming election.
According to the survey released on Sunday, 49% of the respondents expressed their intention to vote for Trump in the upcoming 2024 election, while Biden received support from 43% of the respondents. This shows that Trump’s support has remained stable since CNN’s last poll in January, whereas Biden’s support has slightly decreased by two percentage points from 45%. In a five-way matchup including Trump, Biden, Independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornell West, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Biden’s performance does not improve significantly.
In that situation, Biden received only 33% of the vote, while Trump secured 42%. Kennedy, on the other hand, obtained 16% of the vote, drawing away 13% from both Trump and Biden. West and Stein, on the other hand, received 4% and 3% of the votes, respectively.
Despite facing four sets of unprecedented criminal charges, Trump’s popularity has continued to rise among some Americans. According to a recent poll, 55% of voters now perceive his first term as a success, while 44% consider it a failure.
Looking back at past presidencies with rose-colored glasses is a common tendency among Americans. However, the perception of Trump’s presidency has significantly improved since he left office. A poll conducted in January 2021, shortly after the U.S. Capitol insurrection, revealed that 55% of voters viewed his presidency as a failure.
According to a recent poll released on Sunday, 61% of those surveyed consider President Biden’s presidency as a failure, while 39% view it as a success. This assessment of his tenure as president does not enjoy the same level of reflection as his predecessors.
The number of Americans who consider Biden’s presidency a failure has increased by four percentage points since January 2022.
Voters’ sentiments on various issues are seemingly reflected in that figure, encompassing negative perceptions of his management of the economy, inflation, and student loan debt. However, the lowest rating he received was due to his handling of the Israel-Hamas war, with a significant 71% expressing disapproval.
According to a mid-April CNN poll, 1,212 adults, including 967 registered voters, were surveyed. The margin of sampling error for the poll’s results among registered voters was plus or minus 3.8 points.
With more than six months remaining until the general election, it is uncertain how the polls may change over time. In 2022, when questioned about the decline in his public support according to opinion polls, Biden dismissed their significance by stating, “I don’t trust the polls.”
