A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday as a tornado tore through the small city of Westmoreland in northeastern Kansas, resulting in the loss of one life and the destruction of nearly two dozen homes, according to authorities.
According to a Facebook post by Pottawatomie County officials, the city was hit by a tornado on Tuesday evening, causing damage to several buildings. First responders are currently conducting grid searches in Westmoreland to assess the extent of the damage and to locate any individuals who may have been injured.
According to a news release from a spokesperson in Pottawatomie County, there has been one reported fatality. However, the identity of the deceased individual is being withheld until their family is notified. Additionally, three people sustained injuries in the incident, but fortunately, none of them are considered critical.
According to the county spokesperson, the tornado wreaked havoc in north Westmoreland, destroying a total of twenty-two homes and five outbuildings. Additionally, it is estimated that three RVs in an RV park were also demolished by the powerful tornado.
Late on Tuesday, the county spokesperson revealed that the entire city of Westmoreland was left powerless.

Just two days after tornadoes devastated Oklahoma, Tuesday’s storms swept through the area. The previous Sunday’s tornadoes tragically resulted in four fatalities and left over 100 injured. Prior to that, on Friday, tornadoes wreaked havoc in Nebraska and Iowa, causing destruction to homes and businesses and claiming one life.
