President Biden is scheduled to meet with the families of the police officers who tragically lost their lives while on duty in Charlotte, N.C. This meeting is set to take place on Thursday as a way to honor and support these grieving families.
The White House has announced that the president will be visiting Charlotte Douglas International Airport to honor the courageous law enforcement officers who lost their lives or were injured in the line of duty on Monday.
He will meet with families of the fallen officers, the wounded law enforcement officers, and other law enforcement officers, as well as elected officials at the Charlotte airport.
Afterward, Biden is set to make his way to Wilmington, N.C., where he will deliver a speech highlighting his agenda, which focuses on initiatives such as revitalizing infrastructure and generating employment opportunities, as stated by the White House.
Four police officers lost their lives on Monday in east Charlotte as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant to a convicted felon for possession of a firearm. When the officers approached the individual, they were met with a barrage of gunfire.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks, along with Sam Poloche and William Elliott from the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, tragically lost their lives. Officer Joshua Eyer suffered critical injuries and ultimately succumbed to them at the hospital, as reported by WSOC-TV.
Biden has made it clear that he stands by law enforcement, despite facing criticism from Republicans regarding the increase in crime across the country. He has consistently opposed policies that he perceives as not being tough enough on crime, and he has been a strong advocate for increasing funding for police departments. This would enable them to hire additional officers and allocate more time to engage with communities.
During the 2020 Democratic primary, he made it clear that he was not aligned with the “defund the police” movement, which gained traction among certain progressive groups following the tragic murder of George Floyd in Minnesota.
Biden is visiting North Carolina as part of his campaign strategy to win over the state that was previously won by former President Trump in 2020. This visit follows his previous trip to the Tar Heel State in March, and Vice President Harris’ visit to Charlotte in April.
