Mark Hamill surprised everyone with a visit to the White House briefing room, where he expressed his support for President Biden. The actor even came up with a clever “Star Wars” inspired nickname for the commander in chief, highlighting his belief that the force is with President Biden.
“How many of you expected to see Mark Hamill leading the press briefing?” Mark Hamill, wearing a stylish pair of sunglasses, quipped to the gathered reporters at the start of the White House’s press briefing.
“I had the incredible opportunity to meet the president, and he personally gifted me these stylish aviator glasses,” shared Hamill, renowned for his iconic portrayal of Luke Skywalker.
During his visit to the Oval Office, Hamill shared a delightful anecdote about his interaction with President Biden. When addressing the President, Hamill respectfully referred to him as “Mr. President.” In a warm and friendly manner, President Biden kindly responded, “You can call me Joe.” This exchange highlights the approachability and down-to-earth nature of the President.
Hamill cleverly joked, saying, “Can I refer to you as Joe-B-Wan Kenobi?” He cleverly played on the name of the iconic Jedi master from the popular intergalactic franchise.
Hamill expressed his gratitude and emphasized the significant influence and positivity that one person, Biden, can have in our lives. He highlighted Biden’s legislative accomplishments, stating, “I want to say, once again, how grateful I am, and that just shows you that one person can be so influential and so positive in our lives.”
The 72-year-old performer, who has often criticized former President Trump, is no stranger to the White House.
“I was invited to the Carter White House, and it was truly an incredible experience. I also had the opportunity to attend events at the Obama White House, although I never had the chance to visit the Oval Office. It was always a large gathering whenever I attended.”
According to Hamill, this particular one held a significant significance.
