Former British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was denied entry to a polling station because he forgot to bring his ID to vote in the U.K.’s local elections.
According to Sky News, Johnson, who was the Conservative prime minister from 2019 to 2022, managed to vote later on and he chose to vote Conservative.
In 2022, Johnson introduced the Elections Act which mandated the use of photo ID. Last year, this new law was implemented for the first time in local elections. However, it was on Thursday that a significant number of voters in England and Wales had to present identification, such as a passport or driving license, in order to vote.
According to the Electoral Commission, most individuals successfully fulfilled the new requirements. However, it’s important to acknowledge that there may have been some individuals who chose not to attempt voting due to a lack of acceptable identification.
