South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) criticized the hush money case filed against former President Trump in New York as “ridiculous” on Sunday.
During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Noem criticized the Democrats for their use of the judicial system and activist judges in their fights. She expressed hope that the people and the jury would make the right decision by examining the evidence and recognizing the absurdity of this unprecedented trial.
South Dakota Governor, Kristi Noem, a strong supporter of the former president, has expressed her belief that the case against Donald Trump should have been brought forward years ago, rather than during an ongoing election season. Currently, Trump finds himself spending a significant portion of the upcoming weeks in a Manhattan court room, as the hush money trial recently commenced.
“I find it quite absurd that they have chosen to bring these charges against Donald Trump after such a long period of time. If they truly believed in these allegations, they should have taken action two years ago when the incident occurred. The timing of these charges, conveniently during a presidential election while he is campaigning for a return to the White House, only serves to demonstrate the political motive behind it,” she expressed.
Noem’s remarks mirror the sentiments expressed by Trump and his supporters, who imply that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against the former president should have been initiated earlier, if not driven by political motives. Furthermore, there has been speculation about Noem being considered as a potential running mate for Trump’s re-election bid.
The former president is currently under investigation for 34 counts of falsifying business records. These charges are related to reimbursements that Trump made to his former fixer, Michael Cohen. The reimbursements were made in connection to a $130,000 payment that was given to adult film star Stormy Daniels. The payment was made prior to the 2016 election in order to ensure her silence about an alleged affair.
