The Kremlin has issued a warning, expressing concerns that the United States’ support for Ukraine may result in a prolonged and misguided endeavor. It urges the U.S. not to oppose its invasion of the country, especially as Congress seems poised to approve a $60 billion aid package.
After months of negotiations, an aid deal has been reached to support Ukraine. The support for Ukraine has been uncertain among American conservatives, especially as the Russian military continues to make gains after two years of fighting.
According to Reuters, Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, stated that the United States’ increasing involvement in the hybrid war against Russia will ultimately result in a significant and embarrassing failure, similar to what was experienced in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
The House of Representatives successfully approved a comprehensive foreign aid spending bill on Saturday. This bill allocates a total of $95 billion in funds for various purposes, including support for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. It is anticipated that the Senate will readily pass this measure, as it has the full backing of President Biden.
Ukrainian leaders and American military experts, along with CIA Director William Burns, have been consistently urging Congress to provide funding for Ukraine aid over the past few months. This call for assistance has become increasingly urgent due to the significant advances made by the Russian military. Burns, in particular, issued a warning just last week, emphasizing that Ukrainian soldiers are facing a critical shortage of weapons and would not be able to effectively defend themselves against Russia without support.
According to Burns, the provision of military assistance would not only provide a practical boost but also a psychological one to Ukrainians. He firmly believes that Ukrainians are fully capable of defending themselves and countering Putin’s belief that time is on his side.
According to the expert, if Ukraine does not receive additional assistance, the situation on the battlefield could become even more critical. There is a genuine concern that by the end of 2024, Ukraine might lose or be at a disadvantage, allowing Putin to dictate the terms of a political resolution.
