Donald Trump Jr. paid Peter Navarro a visit in a Miami federal jail, according to people familiar with the case.
In September, the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol found Navarro, a former Trump White House adviser, guilty of two charges of contempt of Congress for refusing to disclose testimony and records. The Federal Prison Camp in Miami, Florida is currently detaining him.
Trump Jr. confirmed his visit to ABC News.
“It’s critical to demonstrate support,” he remarked.
According to Trump Jr., Navarro is in “good spirits” and feels his condemnation was unfair.
Navarro stated at a March press conference that the case against him is an “unprecedented assault on the constitutional separation of powers.”
He had to report to prison in March to serve his four-month sentence after the United States Supreme Court denied a stay of his sentence.
At the press conference, Navarro discussed former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon’s contempt of Congress case and how Bannon was permitted to remain free while appealing his conviction.
Bannon lost his appeal to have his conviction overturned in a House committee case on January 6, and he is expected to report to prison at an unspecified date.
