According to a recent poll conducted by the New York Times/Siena College, former president Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden in five of the six major swing states that Mr. Biden won in the 2020 election.
According to the survey results, Mr. Trump emerges as the victor, leading Mr. Biden by three points in Pennsylvania, three points in Michigan, seven points in Arizona, 10 points in Georgia, and 12 points in Nevada. However, Mr. Biden manages to secure a narrow two-point lead over Mr. Trump in Wisconsin. It is worth noting that Mr. Biden had won all six of these states in the 2020 election.
According to the survey, registered voters were interviewed. However, when considering likely voters, the poll revealed a closer race. In this scenario, Mr. Biden emerged as the winner in Michigan, but narrowly lost in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
According to the survey, the economy emerged as the top concern for 21 percent of voters. Additionally, it was found that 58 percent of voters expressed trust in Mr. Trump’s ability to handle the economy, while 36 percent placed their trust in Mr. Biden.
Mr. Biden, however, still grapples with unfavorable figures on multiple fronts. The public’s discontent with Mr. Biden’s approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict resulted in 50 percent of voters expressing more trust in Mr. Trump, in contrast to 35 percent who leaned towards Mr. Biden. Across all states, a majority of voters indicated greater sympathy towards Israelis rather than Palestinians.
According to the poll, it was revealed that nearly 20% of voters hold Mr. Biden responsible for the demise of Roe v Wade. Although the landmark decision occurred during his presidency, it was the appointment of three Supreme Court justices by Mr. Trump that ultimately tipped the scales in favor of the ruling.
Mr. Biden’s approval numbers remain low, with an approval rating of only 36 percent. One demographic that he struggles with is young voters, who historically lean towards the Democratic party. Surprisingly, 65 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds disapprove of him. Additionally, only 53 percent of Black voters approve of Mr. Biden, as Mr. Trump continues to make appeals to this key voting demographic. It is worth noting that this demographic played a significant role in propelling Mr. Biden to the Democratic nomination for president in 2020.
