A recent poll conducted by health policy research group KFF revealed that President Biden’s efforts to lower the cost of prescription drugs through the Inflation Reduction Act are gaining traction among the public. However, the survey also highlighted that a majority of voters remain unaware of certain important provisions included in the act.

Lowering health costs has been a significant focus for Biden’s reelection campaign, and he has proudly highlighted the successful passage of the IRA as one of his most notable accomplishments.

According to the poll, there has not been a significant change in awareness of the IRA’s other Medicare drug pricing provisions among all voters since November. However, Democratic voters and older voters have shown an increase in awareness of certain provisions.

Despite their concerns, the majority of voters have a pessimistic outlook on the potential impact either candidate would have on drug pricing issues, if elected.

According to the poll, Biden has a slight advantage among independent voters, with approximately half of them believing that his administration’s policies will likely reduce prescription drug costs if he is elected. On the other hand, about 40% of independent voters have the same belief about former President Trump, the presumed GOP nominee.

However, when it comes to tackling the issue of high health care costs, neither candidate emerged as a clear frontrunner. According to a recent poll, 38 percent of voters expressed their trust in Biden’s ability to address this issue, while 36 percent placed their trust in Trump. It remains to be seen how each candidate will approach this critical concern.

The survey included 1,479 U.S. adults and was conducted from April 23 to May 1. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points for the full sample and plus or minus 4 percentage points for registered voters.
