President Biden is scheduled to visit a college campus on Sunday, marking his first appearance on a university since campuses nationwide have become hubs for protests surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Many Black Americans have shown support for the Palestinian cause amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to a survey conducted by the Carnegie Endowment for Peace in March, almost 70% of Black Americans expressed their desire for the U.S. to call for an immediate cease-fire. While 42% of Black respondents indicated that they did not feel a strong connection to either Israelis or Palestinians, 45% expressed a stronger connection to Palestinians compared to Israelis.

This marks a notable decline in support for Biden among Black voters, as in the 2020 election, he received an overwhelming 87 percent of their votes.
According to polling averages from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill, six months before Election Day, Trump is leading in Georgia by 6 points, despite Biden flipping the state to blue in 2020 for the first time in decades.
Biden delivered his speech at a time when numerous college campuses, including Columbia University and the University of California, Los Angeles, were actively protesting against the conflict in Gaza. These protests called for divestment from entities that support Israel’s military. Additionally, the demonstrations focused on the significant number of Palestinian casualties in Gaza since October. Israel launched its offensive in response to deadly terrorist attacks by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,000 Israelis.
Biden acknowledges the right of demonstrators to engage in peaceful protests. However, he strongly denounces the more extreme elements of the protests. He has voiced his disapproval of acts such as vandalism, occupying buildings, and the cancellation of important events like commencement ceremonies, as exemplified by the incident at Columbia University.
According to strategists, Biden will need to strike a delicate balance between celebrating the achievements of the graduates and acknowledging the challenging political climate.
