In a powerful speech to the Israeli parliament, Rep. Elise Stefanik, the highest-ranking Republican woman in the House, criticized President Biden’s handling of U.S. military support for Israel while praising former President Trump’s approach.
“The act of blocking aid to Israel, aid that was rightfully approved by Congress, or the decision to ease sanctions on Iran by paying a $6 billion ransom to the world’s leading state sponsor of terror, or even the act of hesitating and hiding while our friends fight for their lives, are all inexcusable actions for an American president,” stated the House GOP conference chairwoman, The New York congresswoman.
In recent weeks, there has been acknowledgment from the US government that a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel has been halted. President Biden has made it clear that the US will not supply Israel with weapons for offensive actions in Rafah. Additionally, he acknowledged that Israel has utilized powerful American-made weapons in the past, resulting in deadly attacks in Gaza. Furthermore, President Biden indicated that if Israel were to expand its ground offensive to include civilian population centers in Rafah, there would be further restrictions on weapons shipments from the US.
In addition to the aforementioned, Mr. Biden emphasized that the United States will maintain its commitment to provide defensive military aid to Israel. The White House further assured that Israel will receive the complete amount promised in a recently enacted supplementary funding package, earmarked at approximately $14 billion for Israel’s defense. Furthermore, the Biden administration recently notified Congress of its intention to allocate $1 billion in weaponry to Israel.
In a statement on Sunday, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates emphasized that President Biden has been a steadfast ally to Israel, stating, “There has been no better friend to Israel than President Biden.”
President Biden’s commitment to Israel’s security is unwavering, as evidenced by his historic visit during a time of conflict and his decisive action to protect Israel from external aggression. According to Bates, he holds the distinction of being the first American president to visit Israel during wartime, specifically following the devastating October 7th terrorist attacks. Moreover, President Biden holds the distinction of being the first president to authorize the U.S. military to defend Israel against an attack from another nation. These actions highlight the strength of his support for Israel’s security.
Stefanik emphasized the strong support of Americans for Israel and the Jewish people, citing a letter written by George Washington to Jews in Newport, Rhode Island.
Stefanik highlighted her longstanding partnership with President Trump on the subject of Israeli independence and security, stating, “For years, I have been at the forefront, supporting and working closely with President Trump.” Recognized as a key ally of Trump, Stefanik stood out as one of the earliest endorsers of his 2024 presidential campaign. Sources within CBS News have revealed that Trump considers her a potential running mate.
Stefanik expressed the importance of not allowing extremism in certain elite circles to overshadow the genuine love and support for Israel that exists among the American people. She emphasized that a significant number of Americans feel a deep connection to the Israeli people.
