In response to a question about former President Trump’s stance on abortion laws, Ben Carson, the former secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Trump administration, remarked that Trump “does not prefer to have individuals around him who simply agree with everything he says.”
During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Jake Tapper questioned Ben Carson about his discussions with President Trump regarding abortion laws. Tapper specifically highlighted Carson’s previous endorsement of national legislation on abortion.
In the aftermath of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Trump expressed his belief that the decision on abortion law should be left to the states.
According to Carson, President Trump prefers to have individuals around him who are not afraid to express differing opinions. He values engaging in constructive conversations and acknowledges that he has made significant strides in protecting the lives of unborn children, surpassing the achievements of any other president. Carson commends him for his efforts in this regard.
Carson concurs with Trump’s viewpoint, asserting that the decision regarding abortion laws should be left to the states.
“I fully support the notion of transferring this responsibility to the states,” he agreed. “It is crucial that the discussions occur between legislators and the public, as that is where they belong. In fact, they should have been there from the very beginning.”
Carson threw his support behind Trump in 2016, right after he dropped out of the presidential race. Amidst rumors of a potential vice presidential nomination, Trump chose him to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Carson has already given his endorsement to Trump in his third presidential campaign. He stated on Sunday that he hasn’t discussed with Trump about potentially being his running mate, but expressed his willingness to engage in a debate against Vice President Harris.
“I am open to discussing policies and the differences between our administrations. It’s a unique situation where we can compare two administrations with different philosophies. People can see how one administration feels compared to the other, and I would love to debate with her or anyone else,” he expressed.
