An off-duty NYPD officer died in an upstate vehicle accident Friday evening, according to officials.
Officer Juliana Torsiello, a two-year veteran, was driving her 2008 BMW 328i east on County Road 51 between Blough Lane and Ridge Road in Orange County at 6 p.m. when she “failed to negotiate a right-hand curve on a descending road,” according to a New York State Trooper.
According to the trooper, an embankment slammed the officer’s car into oncoming traffic, sending it airborne and hitting a tree. The automobile flipped over and landed on its roof.
Torsiello, 25, had blunt force damage to the head. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office received her body.
The trooper stated that investigators were looking into the officer’s speed as a possible contributing factor to the crash. He stated that an autopsy would determine whether alcohol was present in the officer’s blood.
The officer served at the 30th Precinct in West Harlem before joining the NYPD in December 2021.
