Nikki Haley, a former 2024 GOP presidential candidate, emphasized her support for Israel during a Memorial Day visit to the country this weekend.
Haley, who served as the US ambassador to the UN under the Trump administration, visited the southern landmarks of the nation that Hamas had targeted during the Oct. 7 bombings, which led to more than seven months of fighting between Israel and Gaza’s ruling party.
Danny Danon, a current Knesset member who previously served as Israel’s ambassador to the UN during Haley’s tenure there, received her.
On the social networking site X, Danon shared an altered video in which Haley promised the Israeli people America’s support.
“I will tell all Israelis that America is with them.”We, the Americans, stand with you in the cruel slaughter of 1,200 people. Let us not forget what happened on October 7. Hamas has stated that they will do it again. In the video that Danon uploaded, Haley declared, “We owe it to ensure it never happens again.”
“Do not believe what the media is saying. I assure you: America supports Israel!” Danon reported that Haley made a statement about X in a separate post.
Haley was the last contender competing against former President Trump for the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nomination.
Haley made her support for Israel important to her political identity during her tenure at the United Nations and the months she spent as a presidential candidate, as Danon observed in his post thanking Haley for her visit this weekend.
“It is with the greatest pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to our esteemed friend, Ambassador Nikki Haley, as she arrives in Israel,” Danon wrote on Sunday. “Nikki Haley is an unwavering supporter of Israel and a genuine advocate for the Jewish people. “It is an honor to host her on this historic visit of solidarity.”
