House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) came to President Biden’s defense, supporting his statement from last year that his son, Hunter Biden, had “done nothing wrong” amidst the federal investigation concerning tax and gun offenses.
During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Jeffries supported Biden’s remarks about the investigation into his son. When asked if it was appropriate for the president to comment on the case, Jeffries backed Biden’s decision.
According to Jeffries, President Biden’s comments reflected those of a caring father, which is something that any loving father would do. He emphasized that Hunter Biden, just like Donald Trump, should be given the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial by a jury of his peers.
“We will approach this matter in a just and fair manner,” he stated. “Our intention is to present the facts and the law, and ultimately, a jury will decide Hunter Biden’s guilt or innocence.”
According to Biden, his son Hunter Biden’s actions have been completely innocent amidst an ongoing investigation that has spanned multiple years. The President’s statement was made prior to his son being charged with tax and gun offenses in the previous year.
Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, is set to stand trial this week for federal gun charges in Delaware. Prosecutors allege that he obtained a firearm unlawfully by falsely declaring on a form that he did not use drugs.
Hunter Biden entered a plea of not guilty to the federal gun charges back in October. Despite his attempts to delay the trial for the gun charges, his bid was unsuccessful last month. Additionally, previous efforts made to have the charges dismissed were also unsuccessful.
