On Tuesday, Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling showcased the nation’s second-largest police department and assured that they are fully equipped to handle the expected crowds of protesters during the Democratic National Convention. He also emphasized that they have developed new techniques to manage potential mass arrests.

According to Snelling, around 3,000 officers are currently undergoing specialized training to handle civil unrest and potential riots, while the Chicago police department has recently received updated de-escalation training.

According to Snelling, mass arrests are only considered as a last resort. However, he acknowledged the challenges of such situations, particularly when there is an inevitable convergence of a large number of people in Chicago. He emphasized that there is a possibility of vandalism and violence in such scenarios, and the authorities are fully prepared to handle them.

Over 50 organizations are gearing up to stage a protest in Chicago, despite the city’s denial of permits for demonstrations near the United Center convention site. This move has led to lawsuits being filed and groups pledging to march, regardless of whether they have obtained permits or not.

According to Snelling, the report is inaccurate and he has dismissed it.

This week, Cheatle had plans to tour convention venues in Chicago and Milwaukee, both of which are set to host the Republican National Convention in July.

According to her, the guilty verdict handed down last week against former President Donald Trump has not caused any additional security concerns.

She expressed her determination to tackle all possible hurdles that may arise during the event and emphasized the importance of being fully prepared. “We are fully committed to covering all bases and ensuring that we are ready for any challenge that comes our way,” she stated confidently.
