According to police, a woman stabbed a 3-year-old boy to death outside an Ohio grocery store in an apparent random act.
According to police, at 3 p.m. on Monday, a Giant Eagle in North Olmsted, Ohio, about 15 miles west of Cleveland, stabbed Julian and his mother, Margot Wood.
Julian suffered stab wounds to the back and cheek, according to authorities. Wood, 38, survived with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Police arrested the suspect, Bionca Ellis, 32.
Ellis and the victims did not know each other, North Olmsted police Det. Sgt. Matt Beck said at a news conference Tuesday, calling it a “random act of violence.”
Ellis got “some type of kitchen knife” from a nearby store and walked to the Giant Eagle, where she “spotted Mrs. Wood and her son and then proceeded to follow them out to the parking lot,” Beck said.
Ellis then allegedly assaulted the mother and boy near their car while Julian sat in the shopping cart, according to Beck.
“As a mother, I cannot even begin to comprehend the sense of loss that this family is experiencing,” North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones said at Tuesday’s news conference. “The city and I all share in your loss.”
Ellis faces severe murder charges, according to Beck. Beck declared that he would file additional charges.
